E-glass woven fabric gives bidirectional reinforcement and the highest resin uptake of the common weaves, making it the default for hand lay-up and sheet-molding of FRP grating and covers.
- Best for: hand lay-up, laminates and flat FRP panels needing balanced strength
- Choose woven over unidirectional for: panels loaded in two directions
- Key spec: E-glass, ISO 9001 manufacturing, areal weight 100–1000 g/m²
1. What Is Fiberglass Fabric?
Fiberglass fabric (also called fiberglass cloth, glass fabric, or woven roving) is a textile material made from continuous E-glass fibers woven into various weights and weave patterns. It is the primary reinforcement material for hand lay-up FRP molding, vacuum infusion, filament winding, and composite manufacturing. Fiberglass fabric provides tensile strength, impact resistance, and dimensional stability to the cured composite part. ZEALL supplies industrial-grade E-glass fabric in weights from 200 to 800 g/m², compatible with all common resin systems.
2. Weave Patterns: Plain, Twill, Satin
Plain weave: The most common weave. Each warp thread alternates over and under weft threads. Provides balanced strength in both directions, good dimensional stability. Best for flat panels and general-purpose laminating. Slightly stiffer to conform to complex shapes. Twill weave: Warp threads pass over two and under two weft threads. More flexible than plain weave, easier to drape over curved surfaces. Good for molds with contours. Satin weave (4-harness, 8-harness): Minimum intersections, maximum fiber continuity. Most flexible and drapeable, excellent for complex curves and deep draws. Best for high-performance parts requiring maximum fiber alignment. Choose plain for flat panels, twill for gentle curves, satin for complex shapes.
3. Weight Selection: 200 to 800 g/m²
200 g/m² (4 oz): Lightweight, used as surface veil, cosmetic layers, and small parts. 300 g/m² (7.5 oz): General-purpose lay-up, repair work, boat building. 400 g/m² (10 oz): Most popular all-around weight. Good strength-to-weight ratio. 600 g/m² (16 oz): Heavy-duty structural laminates, large parts requiring high strength. 800 g/m² (24 oz): Maximum strength, used in structural cores, armor panels, thick sections. For typical FRP grating repairs and custom molding, 300-400 g/m² is the standard choice. Higher weights mean fewer plies needed but poorer drape and more resin required per layer.
4. Resin Compatibility
E-glass fiberglass fabric is compatible with: Unsaturated polyester resin (orthophthalic, isophthalic), Vinyl ester resin, Epoxy resin, Phenolic resin. For polyester and vinyl ester, use fabric with silane sizing (most E-glass fabric comes standard). For epoxy, ensure the fabric has epoxy-compatible sizing — some E-glass fabrics are sized for polyester only and may not bond optimally with epoxy. Always check the manufacturer's compatibility data. ZEALL fabric is sized for universal compatibility across polyester, vinyl ester, and epoxy systems.
5. Applications Beyond Grating
Fiberglass fabric is used in: boat hulls and marine composites, automotive body panels, sporting goods (hockey sticks, kayaks), wind turbine blades, architectural panels, corrosion-resistant equipment linings, bathroom fixtures (bathtubs, showers), swimming pools, and FRP repair patches. It is also used as a cosmetic surface layer (gel coat reinforcement) and for electrical insulation panels. ZEALL supplies fabric in rolls (1m, 1.27m, 1m widths) and can cut to custom lengths.
6. Ordering Fiberglass Fabric from ZEALL
ZEALL manufactures and supplies E-glass woven fiberglass fabric in all common weights and weaves. Standard widths: 1000mm, 1270mm, 1524mm. Custom widths available. Rolls: 50-100m per roll. We can supply cut sheets, continuous rolls, or pre-cut plies for specific molds. All fabric is clean, dry, and properly packaged to protect moisture-sensitive sizing.
