FRP pultruded profiles (I-beam, angle, tube, flat) are corrosion-proof structural shapes for frames, supports and handrails — non-conductive and stronger than wood on a weight basis.
- Best for: structural frames, supports and non-conductive assemblies
- Choose pultruded profiles for: high strength-to-weight, corrosion-free framing
- Key spec: ISO 9001, standard pultruded shapes, custom sections
1. What Are FRP Pultruded Profiles?
FRP pultruded profiles (fiberglass structural shapes, GRP profiles) are continuous cross-section structural components manufactured by the pultrusion process. They include I-beams, channels, angles, square tubes, round tubes, flat bars, and custom shapes. With a fiber content of 65-75% by weight aligned unidirectionally, FRP profiles offer exceptional longitudinal strength-to-weight ratio, making them ideal for structural applications where steel is too heavy or corrosion is an issue.
2. I-Beam: The Primary Structural Member
FRP I-beams are the backbone of FRP structural systems. Standard depths: 100mm, 150mm, 200mm, 250mm, 300mm. Flange widths: 50-100mm. Web thickness: 5-10mm. Typical applications: support beams for grating platforms, bridge girders, equipment supports, mezzanine structures, and walkway supports. Bending strength: 350-420 MPa longitudinal. Elastic modulus: 20-25 GPa. I-beams are typically used as primary spans with grating panels spanning between them.
3. Channel & Angle: Secondary Structure & Bracing
FRP channels (C-sections) are used as secondary beams, purlins, wall girts, and equipment supports. Standard sizes: 75×45mm to 200×75mm. FRP angles (L-sections) are used for bracing, edge trim, connection brackets, and stiffeners. Standard sizes: 50×50×5mm to 150×150×10mm. Both channel and angle profiles are lightweight and easy to cut and drill on site, making them ideal for retrofitting and modification work.
4. Square Tube & Round Tube: Columns & Handrail Posts
FRP square tubes (40×40mm to 150×150mm) are used as columns, handrail posts, and fence posts. Their closed section provides excellent torsional stiffness and resistance to buckling. FRP round tubes (30mm to 100mm diameter) are used as handrail rails, pipe supports, and roll-up covers. Both are non-conductive and non-magnetic, making them essential for electrical substations, rail transit, and electronics manufacturing environments.
5. Flat Bar & Custom Shapes
FRP flat bars (10mm to 100mm wide, 5mm to 25mm thick) are used as edge trim, stair nosing, connection plates, and wear strips. ZEALL also manufactures custom pultruded profiles to drawing — including specialized cross-sections, mixed fiber orientations, and colored surface veils. Custom profiles typically require 4-6 week lead time and minimum order quantities. Contact our engineering team for custom profile development.
6. FRP Profiles vs Steel: When to Choose FRP
Choose FRP profiles when: corrosive environment (chemical, coastal, wastewater), weight is critical (rooftop installations, existing structure upgrades, pedestrian bridges), electrical insulation required (substations, rail transit), low maintenance desired (no painting, no rust), or non-magnetic properties needed (MRI facilities, electronics manufacturing). Choose steel when: very heavy loads (>100 kN/m²), indoor dry environment, or budget constraints where corrosion is not a concern. FRP profiles are typically 70-75% lighter than steel equivalent sections, dramatically reducing installation labor and structural support costs.
7. Ordering FRP Profiles from ZEALL
ZEALL manufactures a complete range of FRP pultruded profiles in isophthalic polyester, vinyl ester, and phenolic resins. Standard sections are available from stock or short lead time (2-3 weeks). Custom profiles manufactured to customer drawings. All profiles can be cut to length, drilled, and fabricated before shipping. Contact us for a profile catalog or engineering consultation.
