EN ISO 14122: Permanent Access to Machinery
The structure of EN ISO 14122 and how its requirements apply to FRP grating platforms, walkways and guard-rails.
What is EN ISO 14122
EN ISO 14122 is a multi-part standard on the safety of machinery, addressing permanent means of access to stationary machinery. Part 1 covers the choice of fixed means and general requirements; Part 2 working platforms and walkways; Part 3 stairs, stepladders and guard-rails; and Part 4 fixed ladders.
Scope and application
The standard sets requirements for non-powered access structures that form part of a stationary machine, including their load-bearing surfaces, edges and fall protection. FRP grating is commonly used for the flooring of these platforms and walkways because it is lightweight, corrosion resistant and non-conductive.
Why it matters for FRP grating
Using EN ISO 14122 helps designers and machine builders meet access-safety obligations in a consistent way, especially where platforms are exposed to corrosion, chemicals or outdoor conditions where FRP outlasts steel.
