Heavy-Duty Pultruded FRP Grating

Heavy-duty pultruded FRP grating is engineered for the long-span, high-load walkways where molded grating reaches its limits. Instead of a moulded bi-directional grid, pultruded grating is built from continuous, heavily glass-loaded bearing bars (I-bar or T-bar profiles) connected by cross rods, so its strength runs strongly in one direction along the bearing bars. This makes it the composite choice for platforms that must span wide steel beams while carrying maintenance vehicles, pallet loads and concentrated foot traffic in corrosive or non-conductive locations. Manufactured by Nantong Zeall New Materials Co., Ltd. (ZeAllgrate) since 2004, ISO 9001 certified and exported to more than 45 countries, heavy-duty pultruded grating replaces steel bar grating at a fraction of the weight.

On site, installers value pultruded grating because the long bearing bars ship in one piece up to 6 m, cutting panel joints and the number of clips required. The bars can also be cut and notched around existing columns and pipe penetrations with standard power tools. Because the product does not conduct electricity and will not spark, it is routinely chosen for live electrical areas and near cranes where steel grating would require insulating isolation. ZeAllgrate supplies matching pultruded edge profiles and clips so the finished walkway has clean, safe edges on long industrial bridges.

Typical Applications

Heavy-duty pultruded grating is specified where spans are long, loads are high, or both. Typical uses include elevated walkways on long-span structures, bridge decks and footbridges, offshore helideck access and module topsides, steel-mill and heavy-process operating platforms, power-plant turbine and boiler-house access, wastewater treatment tank bridges over wide tanks, pulper and paper-machine floor grids, mining access platforms, and any platform supporting forklift or truck traffic over wide beam centres. It is also preferred where non-conductivity is critical, such as electrical substations, because the pultruded bars contain continuous glass that will not rust. Because the bars run long, single panels can span multiple bays and reduce the number of support beams required.

Pultruded vs Molded Grating - How to Choose

Choose pultruded grating when the governing condition is a long span with a high load in one clear direction, or where you need steel-like beam action. Choose molded grating (38mm, 50mm) when loads arrive from both directions, when openings and walk-up layouts are irregular, or when you want the most economical bi-directional panel. Note that pultruded strength is directional: the bearing bars must be oriented across the span. For the specific I-bar profile see our I-bar grating page, and choose vinyl ester resin for severe chemical service.

Standards and Quality

ZeAllgrate pultruded grating is manufactured under ISO 9001. Flame spread meets ASTM E84 and pultruded bar production follows relevant FRP industry practice. Bbar straightness, resin content and grit coverage are checked before dispatch.

Installation Notes

Orient the pultruded bearing bars across the span (perpendicular to supports) and fix with purpose-made FRP or stainless clips at every support. Cut bars with a fine-tooth saw and seal cut ends with resin to prevent end wicking. Verify bearing length on supports.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why is pultruded grating stronger than molded?
A: The bearing bars are pultruded with a very high proportion of continuous longitudinal glass, giving much higher bending strength along the span than a moulded grid of equal depth.

Q: Can pultruded grating span further than molded?
A: Yes, for the same depth it can span considerably further in the bearing direction, which reduces the number of support beams.

Q: Is it bi-directional?
A: No. Strength is concentrated along the bearing bars; cross rods provide only lateral spacing, so orient the bars across the span.

Q: Does it resist corrosion as well as molded?
A: Yes, pultruded bars use the same polyester or vinyl ester resins and are widely used in corrosive plants.
