Oil & Gas FRP Grating

Oil & gas FRP grating replaces steel platforms, walkways and grating that corrode in salt spray, sour service and chemical exposure. FRP Grating Master supplies molded and pultruded fiberglass grating for offshore decks, pipe-rack walkways, drill floors, stairs and trench covers.

Exported to 45+ Countries

Oil and gas FRP grating is specified on offshore platforms, onshore drill pads, refineries, petrochemical units and coastal jetties where carbon steel grating rusts, galvanized steel sheds its zinc and aluminum suffers galvanic and chemical attack. FRP is non-sparking and non-conductive, which removes ignition and earthing concerns in hazardous areas, and it carries pedestrian and light vehicle loads over long spans without the weight that drives offshore deck loading limits.

Vinyl ester is the standard resin for sour service, salt spray and chemical splash; phenolic is selected where fire performance is critical, offering low smoke and flame spread. Grit-top surfaces keep foot traffic safe on wet, oily decks, and mini-mesh or covered panels stop tools falling through. Panels are fabricated to the platform drawing with penetrations for pipe supports and handrails, fixed with SS316 clips — no welding and no hot work in the hazardous zone. Selection should be checked against your project fire and electrical area classification.

Offshore and sour service typically specify vinyl ester. Where fire and low-smoke performance drives the specification (escape routes, enclosed modules), phenolic resin is the choice. All ratings are indicative and must be confirmed against your area classification and project standards such as NAAMM MBG-01.

Applications

Applications and Project Experience

Offshore platform decks and walkways: pultruded I-bar decks over long spans, non-sparking and immune to salt spray; see marine FRP grating.

Pipe-rack access and drill floors: molded 38–50 mm vinyl ester panels carrying maintenance foot traffic and light tool loads around process pipework.

Refinery and petrochemical units: corrosion-proof stair treads and trench covers in acid, caustic and hydrocarbon service.

Coastal jetties and berths: grit-top access panels that do not rust-stain the concrete berth and need no repainting.

FAQ

Oil & Gas FRP Grating FAQ

Is FRP grating suitable for offshore oil and gas?
Yes. FRP is non-sparking, non-conductive and immune to salt spray and sour service, which is why it is widely used on offshore decks, pipe racks and coastal jetties. Confirm your fire and area classification with us before selection.
Which resin for oil and gas service?
Vinyl ester is standard for offshore, salt spray and sour/chemical service. Phenolic is selected where fire and low-smoke performance is critical, typically reaching ASTM E-84 Class A. Ratings are indicative and project-specific.
Is FRP grating non-sparking in hazardous areas?
FRP does not produce sparks on impact and is non-conductive, removing ignition and earthing concerns associated with steel. Always check suitability against your project area classification and electrical/ hazardous-area standards.
How does FRP compare to steel for weight offshore?
FRP weighs roughly a quarter of steel, which reduces deck loading and makes panel handling and installation easier on offshore modules. It carries pedestrian and light maintenance loads over comparable spans without corrosion section loss.
