Polyester FRP grating is the standard resin grade that ZeAllgrate supplies for the majority of industrial walkway, platform and trench-cover orders. An isophthalic polyester matrix bonds continuous E-glass fibres into a tough, corrosion-resistant grid that resists atmospheric moisture, mild chemicals and salt spray far better than steel or aluminium, at a lower cost than vinyl ester. Manufactured by Nantong Zeall New Materials Co., Ltd. (ZeAllgrate) since 2004, ISO 9001 certified and exported to more than 45 countries, polyester molded grating is the sensible default when the working environment is moderately corrosive rather than aggressively chemical.
Choosing polyester is not a compromise on durability: in the right environment it will outlast steel by decades without a single coat of paint. The isophthalic grade we use also carries a good flame-spread rating, so it meets common building-code requirements for industrial walkways without adding fire-retardant modifiers that raise cost. For export projects, polyester panels are lighter to freight and easier to handle on site, which lowers both shipping and installation cost compared with steel. This balance of performance and economy is why polyester remains our most-ordered resin for general industrial and marine walkways.
The polyester grade is our general-purpose resin. It is the economical choice for walkways exposed to weather, wash-downs and dilute chemicals.
| Parameter | Value |
|---|---|
| Resin type | Isophthalic polyester (standard) |
| Typical HDT (heat deflection) | about 65-80 degrees C |
| Flame spread (ASTM E84) | Class B / rating 1 typically |
| Resists (general) | Seawater, dilute acids, dilute alkalis, detergents, oils, atmospheric corrosion |
| Not recommended for | Strong concentrated acids, strong solvents, continuous high heat |
| Standard panel size | 1220 x 3660 mm |
| Thickness options | 25 / 38 / 40 / 50 mm molded |
| Surface | Grit top or smooth |
Polyester grating is specified wherever exposure is wet, salty or mildly chemical rather than concentrated. Typical installations include coastal and marine walkways and docks, wastewater treatment plant gratings (dilute effluent), food and beverage processing walkovers (wash-down but no strong acids), car-wash and vehicle-service drainage grids, swimming-pool surround paving, commercial kitchen and brewery drainage, power station non-process walkways, pulp-and-paper floor gratings, and general plant access platforms. It is also the usual choice for architectural and staging grating, cooling-tower walkways, and any outdoor platform exposed to rain, de-icing salts and humidity. For these duties polyester lasts for decades without painting, where steel would rust and require ongoing maintenance.
Choose polyester for general atmospheric, marine and mild-chemical service: it is the lower-cost, perfectly adequate solution. Upgrade to vinyl ester FRP grating only when the process involves concentrated sulfuric or hydrochloric acid, caustic soda at high concentration, aromatic or chlorinated solvents, or continuous elevated temperatures above about 80 degrees C. Thickness is a separate decision: pair the polyester resin with the right structural section (38mm for general walkways, 50mm for forklift) rather than confusing resin choice with load capacity.
Polyester ZeAllgrate grating is manufactured under ISO 9001. Flame spread meets ASTM E84 and molded construction follows ASTM D3743. Resin gel-coat coverage and Barcol hardness are checked on each batch before shipment.
Handle, cut and clip polyester grating the same as any molded FRP panel: use stainless C- or L-clips, deburr and seal cut edges. Because polyester is less solvent-resistant than vinyl ester, avoid prolonged contact with paint thinners or strong solvents on site.
Q: Is polyester grating suitable for seawater?
A: Yes, isophthalic polyester resists salt spray and immersion in seawater very well; it is widely used on docks and coastal structures.
Q: Can it handle sulfuric acid?
A: Only dilute sulfuric acid. For concentrated acid, specify vinyl ester resin.
Q: What temperature limit applies?
A: Plan for continuous service below about 65-80 degrees C; above that choose vinyl ester.
Q: Is polyester cheaper than vinyl ester?
A: Yes, polyester is the economical standard grade; reserve vinyl ester for genuinely severe chemical duty.
Compare resin: vinyl ester grating for severe corrosion. Choose thickness: 25mm, 38mm, 40mm, 50mm. See the molded FRP grating product page and applications in wastewater treatment and construction.
